THE PATROL DIVISION
The Patrol Division is the
“backbone” of the police department. Staffed by uniformed
personnel who patrol the city in clearly marked vehicles,
officers remain attentive and available to handle routine
and emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Patrol Division is commanded
by a Lieutenant whose primary responsibility is to provide
general management direction to Sergeants and Officers
assigned to the individual patrol shifts. Sergeants act as
Watch Commanders who lead team members to patrol assigned
geographic areas within the City of San Marino.
Officers who patrol the city
will generally provide the following services:

Patrol that is directed at
the prevention of criminal acts, Vehicle Code
violations, traffic collision investigation, the
maintenance of public order, and the discovery of
hazardous situations.

Crime prevention activities
such as residential inspections, business inspections,
community presentations, etc.

Calls for service, both
routine and emergency in nature.
-
Investigation of both
criminal and non-criminal acts.
-
The apprehension of criminal
offenders.
-
Community orientated
policing activities such as citizen assistance and
individual citizen contacts of a positive nature.
-
The sharing of information
between Divisions within the department as well as
outside and other governmental agencies.
-
The application of resources
to specific problems or situations within the community
which may be improved by problem orientated policing
strategies.
-
Traffic direction and
control.
Other responsibilities
integrated within the Patrol Division include traffic
safety, motorcycles, reserve officers, Neighborhood Watch,
training, community relations, School Resource Officer,
dispatch, and communications.
